Melody Thomas Scott, the “The Young and the Restless” Nikki Newman since 1979, had a lot more tumultuous background than she would confess
Melody Thomas Scott, born in 1956 in Los Angeles, began acting at age 13, with early roles alongside legends like Clint Eastwood and Kirk Douglas. She studied piano at USC and later became best known for playing Nikki Newman on The Young and the Restless. Despite a successful career, she endured a deeply traumatic childhood.
Abandoned by her mother, she was raised by a grandmother who allowed others to abuse her. Her home was unsafe and unclean, pushing her to find refuge in acting. At 20, she left her grandmother’s home and later shared her painful past in her 2020 memoir, Always Young and Restless.
