“It’s a truly remarkable place,” remarked Indiana guard Sydney Parrish prior to the No. 9 Hoosiers’ second-round March Madness matchup against the Gamecocks. “Firstly, winning here in Columbia is quite difficult, especially given the current prominence of women’s basketball and the status of South Carolina’s program.”

With Staley at the helm, South Carolina has secured three NCAA championships and is striving for a fourth. Should they triumph this year, the Gamecocks would become the first team to win consecutive women’s NCAA titles since UConn in 2016. Chloe Kitts, a junior forward for South Carolina, asserted that Staley deserves recognition in the legacy discussion as well.

“She has met every objective, so why wouldn’t she be included in that conversation?” Kitts questioned, referencing coaching legends like Summitt and VanDerveer.

Indiana head coach Teri Moren emphasized that South Carolina should be mentioned alongside other elite programs such as Tennessee, UConn, and Stanford. “You cannot discuss those other teams without including South Carolina,” Moren stated. “They have elevated the competition.”
